Ooo lil teaser of your unannounced 2025 novel? It looks gorgeous. I mostly do my comics digitally but am more and more inspired to do it with watercolor!
Thanks, Kris! Yes, I suppose it is a bit of a teaser! I love working with watercolor, although it definitely complicates things with scanning it in, etc.
I love the back and forth approach here, with photos, sketches, and examples drawn from what you saw and how it relates to thinking about illustrations in a graphic novel!
I thoroughly enjoyed your reflections on Pillsbury Castle and its connections to graphic novels. The analogy of layering patterns and textures to draw readers into a story was insightful. As always, I loved the pieces from your work, too. Brilliant.
I love this post. But here’s something: one can be as creative with panel borders as they can with the shape of each room. From a tall winding staircase to a greenhouse kitchen to an outdoor lanai, there’s so much more than four walls and two horizontal planes.
I'm still blown away by your Gatsby illustrations. So so cool. And what a cool house!
Thanks so much, Sarah!
It’s so intriguing to see the BTS of an artists day, processes, and how you find inspiration. Fun quick read this has been!
Thanks so much, Daniel!

Great post! You very thoughtfully combined two of my favorite things, interior design and comics! A love seeing the sketches.
Thanks so much, Anastassia! I love interior design and comics too :)
This sounds like such a fantastic place to visit!! I love seeing your sketches when you go on artist dates <3
Thanks so much, Juliana! It was really special.

Thank you, Amy! At first I was trying to do the post without illustrated examples and then I realized how silly that was!

Thank so you much, Jon! I really appreciate that!

Ooo. I love the panel border comparison! So true!
