My trail running routes are are little acts of creativity, whether pre planned or on the fly. Same with my on the fly bike commute decisions. Figuring out how to make the journey as fun as possible.
They certainly are, Mike! And I'm grateful that I get to benefit from your creativity in this way by discovering new trails and routes. And your encouragement to focus on the journey more than the end goal.
My favorite part is the rainbow rock collab, especially because someone added a hawk feather next to it! So cool! You could make a greeting card with that.
That rock rainbow is awesome. What a treat to find colorful rocks! Creative living is always about more than just our art. Glad you mentioned you are doing this week’s Friday Night Comics!
Bringing drawing basics (various pencils, sketch pad, sharpener, eraser) with me in the car, so when visiting grandchildren, (whose iPads beckon them) I can pull out my bag, and suggest they tell their own stories through pictures!! I show them (structure-wise) how story-telling works in graphic novels and comics. Each one (ages 5-11) gets excited (me, too:) They start chattering about their ideas, and then go for the pencils….It is so rewarding for me to watch them discover their voices and ignite their creativity! ❤️
Spontaneous art in my class for brain breaks. The favourite is a big box of chalk that we take out on the playground and children can use it however they like. They come up with creative ladders to move between things and draw around each other too which I really like.
I love that, Jon! Chalk is so fun. I was bummed to discover that the pavement around my house isn't smooth enough for chalk art, but when I see chalk left out on the sidewalk, I often do a quick drawing with it which I imagine a kid will later find :)
Beautiful post, Katharine, and glad you got a vacation with your sister’s family! I love that illo for your SAW workshop—Fridays are tough for me but I’m going to try to make it!

I’m constantly fascinated by how founders discover the market they are uniquely equipped to address and then how they go about addressing it. It thrills me to observe the moment when the founding team achieves product/market fit the first time. It’s an exhilarating ride. Think of a sail boat sailing calmly before the wind and then suddenly a puff lifts it up onto a plane. Everything speeds up and all destinations seem reachable. What a joy to experience or to observe!
Unfortunately, those are rare moments in a company’s life. The mundane work of getting through the day and through the week is what most involves founders. In this context my little acts of art would be talking with founders and helping them get through their day/week. I might provide advice, connections or just an understanding ear.
I love that, Sal! And I've seen first hand your wonderful creativity and enthusiasm with Angel Invest Boston. I also love the sail boat metaphor too.The founders are lucky to get your wisdom and encouragement on the days when it feels like there's no wind!
I often randomly listen to music while I'm drawing. Occasionally I would hear a particularly catchy song that I had never heard before, then I would pause that song and spend some free time re-listening to it with the lyrics and the melody, feeling what the creator of the song was trying to convey. I enjoy feeling the art that someone else has created with all their heart.

Thanks for this. It gave me an idea.
I'm so glad to hear that, Barry!

Thanks, Jason! Yeah, it really was so fun to put that together and incredible that the pebbles in Maine had that much variation in them.

Thank you, Amy!!

What a wonderful idea and practice, Irene! I love that you do this with your grandchildren--it's great on so many levels!

Thanks, Anna! Hope you can make it. They have the recording available afterwards too.
Oh I love this idea!! I want to incorporate it myself.
Thanks, Sarah!
Mostly through photographs and composition, I’ve just started sketching m, a true beginner
That's great, Paul. And I'm sure the composition work you've done with photography will help a lot with sketching too!

Love the "little acts of creativity":
- Choosing my earrings for the day
- Matching them with outfits-- or not
- coordinating outfits with what I'm teaching about for the day, like wearing red for Fire Element classes
- rearranging the little glass jars of plants on my desk in a pleasing manner
- Adding stones and sticks from yesterday's walk to my clinic desk for patients to enjoy
💗 so many possibilities. Thanks for the beautiful inquiry.
Ooo, I love all these "little acts of creativity," Jiling! Thank you so much for sharing!

I agree, Richer. That type of art is wonderful--when you can really feel the heart/effort of the creator!
Stunning rock rainbow. Thanks for reminding me of all the small intentional acts that build a creative life.
Thanks so much, Kris!
