One thing I love about this is that you actually use ink, paints and paper, rather than doing your art on a computer. Beautiful. The tactile nature of it shows through. I say this as a writer who dabbles occasionally with making visual art, mostly with colored pencils. Most of my work is done via a keyboard and a screen. But the ideas, the imagery visual or metaphorical, all comes to me when I'm tapping into the physical/emotional world. So, anyway, thank you for sharing this!
Thank you Kim! I mainly share my diary comics here on Substack where I love using traditional materials and doing very little planning which is liberating for a planner like me :) For my graphic novels, I do parts digitally but I finish with watercolor which gives it the hand made feel which I really love. It's interesting how we all think/work differently and the tools can make a big difference in creating!
Hi there, I found you through the SAW community :) Your new graphic novel is looking amazing!
I create color thumbnails for paintings, in different ways. A lot of the time I just do a digital comp (saves time and paper). But if I want to test particular paint mixing properties, I do smaller watercolor studies, usually on cheaper paper. But even when I do that, I am prone to spending waaaay too much time and often they end up more detailed than I wanted. Can't help myself!
Nice! Yeah, I've tried doing it digitally but since I end up traditionally watercoloring in the end, I just find the disconnect a little strange. It certainly took me time to be able to not get too detailed, but I find working really small helps with that. Excited to see you over at SAW too, Nela!
Nice post K! Can I ask you which printer you use to print on wc paper? I had a treasured Epson 2200 that did all that magic but now it's deceased and I haven't found a replacement. Any tips appreciated, thank you!
The minis are so cute! As someone else who also loved dollhouses, this resonates. My neighborhood has a tiny art museum-box in the park--and I could imagine your miniature paintings there

Ooo brilliant. So fun to see all the palettes you tried out.
Thanks Kris! I seem to learn by doing--hence all the various options I try out!

Oh never mind, I just found your footnote lol. Have you heard of any replacements or seen them in action? Thanks.
I haven't looked into other printers yet (I'm really hoping this one makes it to the end of my book!) Sorry I can't help more.
Thanks, good luck with finishing!

Thank you! That sounds like a really fun tiny art museum!
